One of the world’s foremost luxury accessories brands, MAWI is led by Creative Director Mawi Keivom and Managing Director Tim Awan who live and work in the culturally rich and artistically diverse area of Dalston, East London.
The namesake of the brand, Mawi was born in Manipur, Northwest India to diplomat parents. A creatively rich upbringing and a globetrotting childhood inspired her iconic, distinctly eclectic style and eventually led her to study Fashion Design at the Auckland Institute of Technology in New Zealand.
After graduating and spending her formative design years in New York, Mawi was drawn to the dynamically hip and creative hubbub of London. It was here that she met Tim, with whom she began to form the foundations of the brand over a mutual love of antiques, ornaments and trinkets.
It all began with a charm necklace - a customised item of jewellery to which Mawi added her own jewels and vintage baubles. This original statement piece inspired hundreds of copycat versions across the globe, and led to the successful launch of the MAWI brand at London Fashion Week in 2002. Fashion editors, buyers and stylists alike all fell head over heels for the designer’s innovative blend of cutting-edge fashion with old-school glamour, supported by traditional and tribal undertones for a truly unique aesthetic. Mawi had discovered an aspirational niche for high end costume jewellery and accessories; redefining luxury ideals through fashion-forward styling.
Since this very first collection over a decade ago MAWI has secured a position at the forefront of the international luxury accessories world, recognised as one of the industry’s most prolific brands and acquiring a substantial collection of prestigious awards. The British Fashion Council first presented MAWI with the much-acclaimed New Generation Award, which the brand received for three consecutive seasons; one of the highest accolades available for a breakthrough designer.
The MAWI brand went on to win the Mayor of Hackney’s Best Product Design Award in 2009; was selected as a future luxury leader by the Walpole British Luxury Brands of Tomorrow programme in 2010; and made the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 list in 2012.
As an acknowledgment of such distinguished recognition and appreciation in the industry the brand now actively supports new designers and creative talent. In 2013 Mawi and Tim were appointed on the judging panel of the Jewellery Category of the International Talent Support Awards (ITS), sponsored by Swarovski ELEMENTS and Swatch. Mawi’s rich history and active participation in the creative scene has inspired a generation of designers and paved the way for experimentation with materials, concepts and ideas to challenge luxury conventions.
Over the years MAWI has been invited to collaborate with some of the world’s most iconic labels and top fashion houses, including Hugo Boss, Swarovski, Bruno Magli and Disney Couture. The brand has also joined forces with some of the most creatively dynamic designers working today, commissioning pieces for David Koma, Mark Fast and Temperley London. MAWI operates at an international level whilst still managing to keep the independent, creative spirit of East London alive through this wide variety of exciting projects alongside the mainline collections.
Each MAWI creation provides an ornamental meeting place for the past, present and future; enduring the test of time long after seasonal whims have diminished. Every collection adds to an established repertoire of timeless, eternally coveted pieces; celebrating traditions, combining the contemporary and classic and always remaining true to a strong vision.

We travel the world to source materials for our collections, spanning many countries and cultures to find the perfect components. MAWI pieces are precious-metal plated and feature Swarovski crystals, costume pearls, and enamel finishing. They are also frequently set with semi-precious gemstones such as onyx, amethyst and jade. MAWI jewels are plated with 9-18 carat rose and yellow gold, silver, imitation rhodium and hematite. The colours and styles will vary between the different collections and designs, but each piece is produced following a premium standard of production. Necklaces, earrings and bracelets are 0.15 micron plated and rings are 1.0 micron thick. MAWI jewellery is nickel compliant, although we cannot guarantee that it is hypo-allergenic.
MAWI jewels are the ultimate in luxury costume jewellery, and like all precious treasures need to be handled as such. We recommend never wearing your jewels whilst showering or swimming; and storing the pieces away from heat and sunlight, preferably in a fabric lined box or protective pouch to avoid damage from scratching. Perfumes, dust and everyday wear will all take their toll on your MAWI jewels, so try to keep contact with cosmetics, lotions and any other potions down to a minimum. Gemstones and precious metals can naturally diminish over time, but with the proper love and care your MAWI pieces will remain beautiful for years to come.
We currently have no positions available. Please check this page regularly for updates, or alternatively send a CV and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications will be kept on file on a speculative basis and in the event of a vacancy we will contact suitable candidates.
